Antennas & Accessories

Before
deciding on the antenna, there are a few very important
things you must consider. Your antenna selection is
the most important factor in purchasing
a UHF radio system.
- Where to place
the antenna - Undoubtedly,
centre roof location is the best, but maybe not so
practical, or maybe you don't wish to drill a hole
in you roof (don't blame you). For other locations
such as Roof Gutter, Bullbar, Side of Guard etc.,
an 'Independent Ground' antenna should
be used to achieve the best performance.
- Where would
you be using your Radio - Remember the
type of terrain you drive, whether you own a petrol
or diesel is another factor in determining the antenna
that would best suit your requirements. As a guide
4 - 6db gain suits general type terrain, 9db STRICTLY
super flat terrain, 0-3db hilly/ mountainous terrain.
Most times it's not practical to change antennas continually
so I find 4.5-6db perfect for most situations.
- What type
of travelling will I be doing? -
e.g., General 4WDriving - Outback Travelling - Tarred
Roads - these are all extremely important factors
to consider before you make you antenna selection.
Lakecomm's complete antenna range has been carefully
selected to cater for all possibilities. For easy
identification as to 'your' best antenna,
we have identified each antenna with coding as shown
below to assist in simplifying the task.

You
may ask, why do we suggest one antenna and not the other for
different purposes? All antennas have different physical attributes
and are manufactured to varying standards. Our above recommendations
have been based on what is known as the 'Vibration
Factor' which is caused by diesel engines and
outback corrugated roads - this vibration source will eventually
fatigue the antenna and cause failure if the correct one is
not chosen.

Two-Way Antenna Systems - Without
a doubt the most important decision to make is the Antenna
selection. With commercial two-way, operative range of
your radio equipment is the No.1 criteria. Centre Roof
mounting of your antenna is the ultimate position, providing
the best Ground Plane. Utilising an antenna such as the
RFI CSW25 series, is not only low cost but will give you
the best transmission range possible. If Centre Roof mount
is not practicle for your situation the next best alternative
is the CD920 series - Listed below is just a sample of
the range of Lakecomm commercial antennas. - When it comes
to brand names, RFI is the name synonymous with quality
two-way antennae. |
