Both
Codan and Barrett HF Radios have the optional facility
to interface a suitable GPS to the radio via the GPS
Interface Input. This feature enables the radio to transmit
and receive GPS positions from other HF radios or log
your position to a base stations e.g. HFoZ
If
you have one of the older style GPS units that has a
Serial Data Output facility, this can simply interface
direct with your HF Radio - No problems - However if
your GPS is one of the latest models you'll more than
likely not have this type of data ouptut, instead USB
is used which cannot be used with HF Radio.
The
Garmin GPS16xHVS is the answer to this problem. It is
a GPS engine only, in other words no display just a
round dome type unit, that provides serial data ouptut
allowing interfacing to your HF radio.
